More than 7,000 conferences focusing on the theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life", over 150 pavilions and attractions along the Decumano, concerts, exhibitions, restaurants and street food stalls, all aimed to show the many facets of today’s food challenges. Here, at the Expo Site, a historic event has taken place, which will be remembered as a huge success story for many years. Here are some of the key moments.
"I’d been away from Italy for a long time due to my studies. I missed my country, my family, everything I loved was so far away. As soon as I could, I came back here and applied to work in the Social Media Team of Expo Milano 2015. I wanted to learn, to get to know people from all over the world, I needed a change.... In these six months I haven’t had much time to visit the exhibition as a tourist, but one pavilion has stayed firmly in my heart: that of Alitalia-Etihad. My parents are both flight attendants and going into that pavilion made me feel at home. Luggage, uniforms, people going and coming. Now this experience is coming to an end and I’ll return home with the knowledge of having gained another valuable experience which will help me secure a future here, in my country. But if I should need to leave again, the bags are packed. If ever I were to get homesick, there’s always a plane waiting to take me home”.
"When I applied to come and work here I didn’t think I had a chance. Then, a few days before the start of Expo Milano 2015, I received a phone call ... I’d been accepted! I was asked to come to Milan the next day, so in a hurry I had to leave my town in Abruzzo, Pratola Peligna, and go quickly to where I was needed. Once there, as you can imagine, I was still dazed and in shock, but thanks to the great support of family and friends already living in Milan, I managed to find accommodation, and most importantly, a sense of calm. Being given a place in the Social Media Team of Expo Milano 2015 is one of the most incredible things that has ever happened to me. I went from living in a small town to the big city in a day. I've decided to continue my studies once this experience is over, it’s opened up a new and dynamic world, and keeping pace is a challenge and a necessity!"
