Founder and president of the Earth Policy Institute, an interdisciplinary organization whose purpose is to develop plans for a sustainable future. About 30 years ago he contributed to the definition of the concept of sustainable development. He was the founder and president for 26 years at the Worldwatch Institute, considered the most authoritative observatory  on trends about our planet’s environment. During his career he has published more than 50 books, that have been translated into over 40 languages​​, and has received 25 honorary degrees. He was established by the Washington Post as "one of the most influential thinkers of the world."
