Having selected Milan as the city to host the Universal Exposition, Italy also chose Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life as its central theme. Expo Milano 2015 will talk about the problems of nutrition and the resources of our planet. The idea is to open up a dialogue between international players to exchange views on these major challenges which are relevant to everyone.
Expo Milano 2015 looks at human history through two aspects of food production: traditional cultural values and the use of new technologies. These two aspects do not stand alone, but are very much interconnected. Besides being an opportunity for industry players to meet, the Universal Exposition is part of a cultural journey that aims to highlight the growth and the changes that the entire population of the planet is currently facing.
A little bit of history: the first International Exposition of Milan. April 28, 1906 saw the opening of the International Exposition hosted by Milan and dedicated to transportation. The site chosen was the present Parco Sempione, the park that sits behind the Sforzesco Castle, which was filled with 200 pavilions. At that time there was a lot of interest in transportation systems both on land and sea and the whole world was waiting for the Simplon Tunnel to be completed.
Situated in the heart of Milan, Expo Gate introduces the public to Expo Milano 2015 and forms a bridge between the city and the exhibition site. From May 2014, Expo Gate is the stage on which Milan interprets the central theme of Expo Milano 2015: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.
They come from the world of culture, sport, entertainment and the non-profit sector: the Ambassadors of Expo Milano 2015 are our ideal spokespersons, a group of prominent personalities who are growing in numbers every day. Men and women, Italian and otherwise, who have enthusiastically accepted to fly the flag for the Universal Exposition. They share a desire to get personally involved and to share their thoughts on the Exposition and how to bring to life its theme: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.
