ARCA: established in 2007, it is the Regional Procurement Company of Lombardy and its portal, which was originally created by Lombardia Informatica S.p.A., provides services and tools for Lombardy’s Public Administration procurement, as defined by Regional Law no.12, July 16, 2012.
 
BIE: Le Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) is the international body responsible for supervising and regulating the calendar, the campaign for nominations, selection and organization of the Universal and International Expositions. The BIE is an inter-governmental organization which was set up in Paris in 1928 under the Convention of the International Expositions, which provides the definition and objectives of the Expo, as well as international standards for organization and participation. For this purpose, BIE fulfills three essential functions, ensuring:
  1. correct application of the Convention and all regulations relating to the Expo;
  2. sharing of knowledge and best practices between the Expo and others;
  3. development of the structure and principles of the Expo so that these events remain relevant in a context characterized by globalization, a developing virtual world, and times of change.
ATECO classification: a classification of economic activities, used by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) for managing the statistics of the national economy. The subdivisionis developed in terms of alpha-numeric characters with varying degrees of detail: letters indicate the macro-economic sector, while numbers (ranging from two up to six digits) represent the formulation and breakdown of segments. Costs: costs incurred by Expo 2015 S.p.A. consist mainly of activities related to the organization of the Universal Exhibition.

Dossier of Registration: the document that was delivered to the BIE (Bureau International des Expositions) on April 22, 2010, representing the required formalization for becoming permanently assigned as host city of the Expo: it serves to document and confirm all commitments made during the application for the event. The Expo Milano 2015 Dossier of Registration was prepared by the Company with contributions from the Commissioner and all Partners, and provides a complete overview of both the development of meaningful content of the Expo, and the guidelines for its implementation until 2015.
 
DPCM: a Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers.
 
Expo Performance Review: a tool with which managers assess their employees according to
the Company’s manual of competencies and skills. This system defines the set of behaviors and
skills for managing key roles in the company, and evaluates those skills possessed and tasks
carried out by supervisors and employees, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
 
Governance: the set of rules and codes that guide the management of a company, both internally
and in relation to its shareholders.
 
Telematics Platform: also called "Sintel," is the online tool adopted by Expo 2015 SpA to ensure maximum transparency in its procurement procedures, to manage the List of Contractors and the management of electronic procurement procedures. This platform is developed and managed by ARCA, the Regional Procurement Company of Lombardy.
 
Negotiated Procedure: through this procedure for assigning works, services or supplies, even
without prior publication of a contract notice, the contracting authority consults with its selected
economic operators and negotiates contractual conditions with them directly.
 
The RFP, Request For Proposal, is the main process used by Expo 2015 S.p.A. to find Partners, Sponsors and Dealers and ensures a process that is both transparent and competitive.The process is split into two key categories:

  • RFP ON SITE: for companies wanting to invest in a physical presence during the Expo Milano 2015 event.
  • CROSS-SITE RFP: for partners and sponsors offering general services, and not necessarily present on-site.

Revenues: the revenues of Expo 2015 S.p.A. consist mainly of contributions made by shareholders and proceeds from Partners.

Società di Scopo: an Italian legal term which refers to Expo 2015 S.p.A.: a public company, of which 40% is owned by the Ministry of Economyand Finance,20% each by the Region of Lombardy and  the  City of Milan, and 10% each by the Province of Milan and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture of Milan . It was established by Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers on October 22, 2008, and subsequent amendments and additions, with the aim of organizing, implementing and managing Expo Milano 2015.
 
Stakeholders (or "stakeholders"): all influential and relevant parties for Expo 2015 S.p.A.from its shareholders, to its Participants, and the public and private companies which work with the Company.
 
Company Executives: individuals who perform functions of representation, administration or management of the Company or one of its units with financial and functional autonomy, and individuals who exercise, and effectively manage or control of the Company.
 
Subordinates: persons working under the direction or supervision of the Company Executives
(see definition).
 
SMART CIG: an electronic instrument by which contracting authorities can obtain the Competition Identification Codes in a simplified form or a carnet booklet of 50 certificates.
 
SIMOG: an online management tool prepared by the Authority for the Supervision of Public
Works, and made available to those managing the Competitive Tender Proceedings and related
Lots for the purpose of data transmission, pursuant to paragraph 8 of Article. 7 of Legislative
Decree 163/06.
 
EU threshold: Under Regulation (EU) No.1336/2013 of December 13, 2013 (OJEU 14.12.2013
n. L335/17), the European Commission took steps to update the thresholds for applications in the
field of Contract Award Procedures by amending Directives 2004/17/EC, 2004/18/EC and 2009/
81/EC of both the European Parliament and the Council, regarding the corresponding thresholds.
 
As of January 1, 2014, the following thresholds shall remain in force (up to December 31, 2013,
the thresholds were: Public Works: € 5,000,000 and for the services and supplies in the ordinary
sectors: € 200,000):
  • for Public Works: € 5,186,000
  • for services and supplies in ordinary sectors: € 207,000.
Balance Sheet: The balance sheet of a company consists of two main components: active and passive. The most representative assets (active) comprise Bank Deposits and Cash contributions of Partners and Investments deposited at the Bank of Italy; in other words, the value of tangible and intangible assets of the Company.
 
VIK: stands for Value in Kind, and is the tool that Expo 2015 S.p.A. offers its partners and sponsors, giving them the opportunity to pay part of their sponsorship contributions in goods and services equivalent to a properly established sum. The sponsorship offers various rights and benefits to Partners, and includes: the visibility of their brand in national and international contexts for the entire duration of the contract, both before and during the Exposition; hospitality packages throughout the Expo; granting the use of the official Expo Milano 2015 logo during partner events, promoting awareness and understanding of the Universal Exposition of Milano 2015.
