FS Italiane is the Official Global Rail Carrier of the Expo Milano 2015. The partnership was established with the goal of responding in a competitive and sustainable manner to the mobility and transportation needs of Italian citizens and foreigners set to attend the international exhibition, a prominent event estimated to attract over 20 million visitors. The theme titled “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, in fact, emphasises the need for greater equity of access to food resources, as well as the importance of global commitment to the dissemination of suitable practices focused on nature and the environment.
Offering efficient, environmentally friendly and easily accessible transportation services serves as a common prerogative for both the Expo Milano 2015, as well as the FS Italiane Group. In this respect, it is estimated that around 32 percent of Expo visitors will access and reach the exhibition grounds by train. During the six-month duration of the Expo the primary providers, Frecciarossa and Frecciabianca will service the Expo with stops at the Rho Fiera station. In addition, the entire high-speed network will be utilised to its fullest potential, serving and connecting the main Italian tourist destinations. Frecciarossa 1000, the new European supertrain capable of reaching a commercial speed of 360 km/h will make its grand debut, racing between Rome and Turin. Rail services with foreign countries will also be expanded: the Thello Paris-Venice service will offer visitors from France the opportunity to travel directly to the Rho Fiera station. In addition, international connections with Switzerland will be supplemented with eight new trains departing from Geneva, Basel and Lugano and 14 new stops at Rho Fiera.
Entrance tickets for the Expo Milano 2015 can be purchased via national channels, as well as through the international Trenitalia network, covering all five continents with active sales outlets available worldwide. Thanks to various partnerships and synergies, efficient intermodal transport services will be facilitated. In addition, a number of integrated tourist packages and special offers will be made available, allowing visitors easy and efficient access to the event. Particular focus and attention will be given to schools and senior tourists, who will be able to take advantage of special offers. Beginning in December 2014, Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca train exteriors will be customised in theme with the Expo, promoting the event logo across the country and bringing its image to the attention of millions of travellers. Additionally, beginning on August 30 from Venice and continuing over the coming months, the Expo Express, Trenitalia demo-train fully customised with the logo and colours of the Expo Milano 2015, will begin a 13 stage promotional tour, set to reach railway stations across the country.
FS Italiane will establish a strong presence in the exhibition halls, with a large space dedicated to the promotion and advocacy of rail services as a key element of sustainable transport and tourism.
