The main purpose for Oxfam’s participation in Expo Milano 2015 is to inform, create awareness and involve visitors on issues concerning the right to have access to food, climate change and environmental protection. The Expo theme of Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life is closely related to the activities and projects that Oxfam has developed and is implementing at a global level, the campaign “Grow – Food, Life, Planet” being a prime example.
The theme chosen by Oxfam, in particular, touches on the gap between abundance and shortage, on what will be the future of our food and on the relation between sustainable food and an equitable world. No less important is the focus that Oxfam places on the empowerment of women and the role of women as the "nourishers" of the Planet, the energy driver for sustainable development, as demonstrated by the Italian campaign "Con le donne per vincere la fame” (With women to combat hunger), which will create synergies with the project "Women for Expo".
Oxfam is organizing different types of events and activities that involve the public and delegations of different countries, local governments, businesses, and civil society representatives.
