A few hours before the closing ceremony of Expo Milano 2015, the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz sent a video message to thank all those who have contributed to making the Universal Exposition of Milan a success for Italy and for Europe. The President thanked “the Italian authorities, workers, officials, volunteers and citizens who have made this event possible and who have contributed to making the EXPO of Milan and the Pavilion of the European Union, a success.”
The Universal Exposition are still events that attract public
According to Schulz, the event was a success for not only the over 20 million people who have chosen to visit the Exposition, but also because it is a concrete testimony of the interest that this kind of event arouses still today. Besides, it underlines how all this has refuted the scepticism of the eve.
Milan placed Europe and sustainability at the centre
“From my point of view the Expo was a success because it has placed sustainability at the centre of the political agendas. And this was done through the Charter of Milan
, the document that sets new ambition in establishing the right to food for the future generations,” added Schulz
As an evidence of the strong Europeanism that connotes Italians, Schulz
declared that the European Union Pavilion
- one of the central place in the Exposition - was visited by over 600 thousand people with a level of satisfaction close to 90%.
