Liberia celebrated its National Day at Expo Milano 2015 on Tuesday, October 27, present at the Universal Exposition in the Arid Zones Cluster
. The official ceremony was attended by the Commissioner General of Expo Milano 2015 Bruno Antonio Pasquino
and the Commissioner of the Pavilion of Liberia, Marco Conca
. The ceremony was simple but full of meaning. With their speeches, the authorities praised the great efforts made by Liberia to be present at the Universal Exposition, a result made possible thanks to the involvement of the Community of San Patrignano, by many small private Italian partners and by the support of the small but closely knit Liberian community in Italy. It is thanks to the solidarity of this plurality of subjects that Liberia has fulfilled the dream of being officially present with its space in Expo Milano 2015, a milestone that has allowed the international community’s attention to be awakened and fostered the start of many lasting relationships. After the institutional ceremony, the National Day of Liberia continued in the country’s Pavilion with tastings of local products, both Liberian and Italian, made available by the Pavilion’s partner companies.
Liberia in Expo Milano 2015, an African fairytale
"Liberia’s experience in Expo Milano 2015 can be likened to a fairytale - said Marco Conca - and of course every fairytale begins with a problem: Ebola. A virus that was ultimately defeated, thanks to the help of the international community, the Liberian people and our President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. The participation of this African country would not have been possible without the commitment of Letizia Moratti and the community of San Patrignano, who have supported us throughout these months.” "The success of the Universal Exposition is due to the presence of countries like yours that wanted to bring their experience in biodiversity, tradition and forward thinking on the exhibition’s themes," remarked Bruno Antonio Pasquino, who also thanked the President of Liberia.
