With Milan selected as the host-city for the Universal Exposition, Italy then chose Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life as its central theme. Expo Milano 2015 talks about the problems of nutrition and the resources of our planet. The idea is to open up a dialogue between international players, and to exchange views on these major challenges which impact everyone.
Expo Milano 2015 examines human history through the lens of two aspects of food production: traditional cultural values and the use of new technologies. These two aspects do not stand apart, but are very much interconnected. Besides being an opportunity for industry players to meet, the Universal Exposition is part of a cultural journey that aims to highlight the changes that the entire population of the planet is currently facing.
On April 28, 1906 the International Exposition dedicated to transportation opened in Milan, in concomitance with the inauguration of the Simplon railway tunnel, which provided the shortest railway link between Northern and Western Europe. For the occasion, the area behind the Castello Sforzesco, the current Parco Sempione, became home to more than 200 pavilions. Interest in the progress made in the fields of land and sea transportation was high, and Milan was the ideal choice for the location of the Exposition, allowing the city to take a starring role on the international stage.
Expo Milano 2015 presents its digital side. The Universal Exposition that Italy is hosting from May 1 to October 31, 2015 wants to reach the widest audience possible. Making use of the most innovative digital tools, Expo is spreading the message of the theme Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.
