An area extending over one million square meters, a project entrusted to a group of designers supported by internationally renowned architects such as Stefano Boeri, Ricky Burdett and Jacques Herzog, developed on two perpendicular axes, which recall the Cardo and the Decumanus of the Roman city, enhanced by a breathtaking landscape whose appearance resembles an island teeming with green spaces and entirely surrounded by water. The exhibition site of Expo Milano 2015 has represented and developed the event theme, Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.

This enormous outdoor theater will host shows, concerts and official ceremonies. The canopy over the stage area is covered with solar panels, thus making the theater self-sufficient energy-wise.

This is the largest outdoor space open to visitors at the Expo, and will be the venue for water games, firework displays, and concerts. The pool, 90 metres in diameter, is surrounded by stepped terraces, affording seating for up to 3,000 people, with a standing room behind them for another 17,000 spectators. Three concentric circles of trees complete the picture.

The design of the exposition site is keyed on the ancient Roman urban planning ideal: two intersecting axes, the Decumano and the Cardo. In our present-day version, the east-west Decumano accommodates the international pavilions, while on the north-south Cardo we find the Italian exhibition buildings.
