From April 26 to September 27, 2015 at the Forte di Belvedere in Florence, visitors will be able to visit the "Human" exhibition by the British artist Antony Gormley, considered one of the most respected sculptors living today.
More than 100 works occupy the 16th century fortress
The event, sponsored by the City of Florence and organized by Mus.e  with the support of the Galleria Continua and White Cube art galleries is under the artistic direction of Sergio Risaliti and curated by Arabella Natalini and Sergio Risaliti. Human brings together more than one hundred works by Gormley  on display in the fortress’s interior spaces, ramparts, steps and terraces. The exhibition occupies much of this fortress that dates back to the 16th century and offering stunning views of the city and the surrounding Tuscan hills.
Florence focuses on contemporary art
Among the works on display of note is the installation "Critical Mass" that was originally conceived in 1995 for a former tram depot in Vienna and was called an "anti-monument that evokes all the victims of the twentieth century." "Human" renews and confirms the determination of the city to promote contemporary culture, looking for a crucial interaction between Renaissance Florence and the city of today, in a close dialogue between sculpture and a new concept of the environment. After the reopening of the Forte di Belvedere in 2013, "Human"  follows the great success of the exhibition of Zhang Huan (2013) and Giuseppe Penone (2014).
About the artist
Antony Gormley is widely acclaimed for his sculptures, installations and public art works that investigate the relationship between the human body and space. His work has developed the potential opened up by sculpture in the 1960s by creating a critical engagement between one’s own body and that of others, addressing the fundamental questions on where human beings stand in relation to nature and the cosmos. He continually seeks to identify the space of art as a place where new behaviors, thoughts and feelings can be created. Gormley's work has been widely exhibited throughout the United Kingdom and internationally.
