The end of September chimes in to the rhythm of music. With two shows open to the public, as part of Algeria’s participation in Expo Milano 2015, the musical group Targuie Imzad and the queen of the “diwane” music genre, Hasna El Becharia, will perform to the rhythms of the desert on September 26 and 29 2015 at 19:00 in the Bio-Mediterraneum Cluster in Expo Milano 2015.
The group Imzad will perform on September 26 at 19:00
The group Imzad was founded in 2012 and is composed of a dozen members including singers, musicians, dancers and composers. Their success contributes to the protection and promotion of the Imzad, a single-stringed musical instrument typically played by women. As the voice of an ancestral musical tradition, the group has enhanced its collection of instruments by introducing the guitar, sax and drums to accompany the Imzad.
Hasna El Becharia will take to the stage on September 29 at 19:00
Hasna El Becharia, the diva of the music of the Sahara, has already held many concerts in Italy and worked with Italian musician Eugenio Bennato. Daughter of a “diwane” music teacher, Hasna El Becharia began her career in 1972 when she founded a female group in the region of Bechar. She released a first album entitled "Djazaïr djohara" and is today supported by her experience in International circles. This giantess of diwane (or gnaoui) music livens up her concerts by playing various instruments, such as the guembri, qarqabou, shakers and electric guitar.
